Christian MarclayAmerican visual and sound artist, born 1955

Christian Marclay is a visual and sound artist who explores the connections between fine art and audio cultures. Incorporating physical and digital objects associated with sound with photography, video, sculpture, and installation, the artist investigates how audio, images, time, and setting affect auditory experience. Marclay was born in California, raised in Switzerland, and resides in London. The artist has exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad at institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Tate Modern in London, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. In 2011, Marclay was awarded the Golden Lion at the Biennale di Venezia for his 24-hour, single-channel video, The Clock.
