Chul Hyun AhnKorean, active in the United States, sculptor, born 1971

Using ordinary fluorescent tubing, mirrors, and plywood, Chul-Hyun Ahn constructs a dizzying illusion that creates an infinitely deep space for contemplation, reflecting his interest in Zen Buddhism. Ahn began exploring geometry while training as a painter in his native Korea. An interest in three-dimensionality led him to incorporate some of the devices used by the 1960s Minimalists and light artists, such as the grid, basic shapes, and industrially-produced materials.

Chul-Hyun Ahn has exhibited throughout the United States, in Germany, and in his native Korea and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Maryland Institute College of Art. Ahn has been a semi-finalist for the prestigious Baltimore-based Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize and his works are included in The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse in Miami, Florida and the Palm Springs Art Museum, among others.
