Margaret LowengrundAmerican painter, graphic artist, educator, and lithographer 1905–1957
Lowengrund was born in Philadelphia and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She moved to New York to work as a journalist and studied printmaking with Joseph Pennell. She exhibited successfully in New York in the 1930s and 1940s and worked as associate editor of Art Digest from 1948 to 1950.
Interested in producing and exhibiting lithographs, in the 1950s she founded the gallery which became the Pratt Graphic Art Center after her death.
