William Anastasi is considered by art historians to be among the founding members of Conceptual Art and Minimalism in the mid-1960s. Anastasi was influenced by his association with composer John Cage and his interest in the I Ching (or Book of Changes), which outlines a method for utilizing chance procedures to determine an outcome. Anastasi was born in Philadelphia and has lived and worked in New York City since the early 1960s. He began exhibiting his work in solo exhibitions since that time and is included in major national and international museum collections. From 1984 to 1990, the artist was the Artistic Advisor to the Merce Cunningham Dance Company with Dove Bradshow, and in 2010, Anastasi received the John Cage Award from the Foundation for Contemporary Art.
