Mary NybergAmerican ceramicist and teacher, 1919–2006

Mary Nyberg began making pottery in her 40s after a career in medical and social service nonprofits. Born and raised in Maine, Nyberg attended the University of Maine and moved to the Baltimore area. After being inspired by a pottery demonstration at a Maine county fair, Nyberg studied with Olin Russum at the Baltimore Museum of Art and opened her own studio. She was known for creating functional pottery and ceramic works. Nyberg was a member of the American Craft Council, the Maryland Craft Council, the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and was a member of the board of directors of Baltimore Clayworks. She later retired to Deer Isle, Maine.
