Kenneth Noland

Kenneth Noland studied at Black Mountain College in his native North Carolina in the mid-1940s and then abroad in Paris with Ossip Zadkins from 1948 to 1949. The artist taught extensively, first at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Washington, D.C. and later at Catholic University of America and Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson. Noland was integral to establishing the Washington Color School, a style of abstract painting defined by flat planes of color. The artist's work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and he is represented in the collections of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among many others.
