Edwin Lord Weeks

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Weeks gained fame for his paintings and illustrations of Orientalist subjects. He studied in Paris with Léon Bonnat and Jean-Léon Gérôme and traveled widely through Europe, South America, Egypt, Morocco, and India. He chronicled his travels in paintings, books, and illustrations that appeared in popular American magazines, including Harper's Monthly.
