José Clemente OrozcoMexican muralist and draftsman, 1883–1949

Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Orozco studied at the San Carlos Academy for Fine Arts in Mexico City. Orozco was influenced by Mexican artist José Posada and by the Symbolist movement. Orozco is best known as a muralist, like his colleagues Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. He painted murals throughout Mexico, as well as in California, New York, and Hanover, New Hampshire. A politically committed artist, Orozco was also a prolific cartoonist for Mexican newspapers.
