Emil Ganso

Born in Halberstadt, Germany, Ganso came to the United States as a teenager. He studied at the National Academy and was showing at the Weyhe Gallery by 1925. His sales at Weyhe allowed the artist to spend summers in the artists' colony at Woodstock, New York, and he moved there permanently in 1927. He printed lithographs for French painter Jules Pascin, who he visited in Paris. He experimented with photography, learned the art of mixing paints, and kept a large art library. Ganso shared his expertise with the many painters and printmakers in Woodstock.
