Wharton EsherickAmerican designer, sculptor, and furniture maker, 1887–1970

Wharton Esherick, a pioneer of the Studio Craft Movement, is renowned for his furniture and architectural elements of sensitively hand-carved wood. More interested in his craft than in publicity or volume of output, Esherick preferred to work with a small number of like-minded clients. Even so, he created hundreds of unique pieces during his lifetime and only rarely produced designs in multiple numbers.
