Will Hicok LowAmerican painter, illustrator, muralist 1853–1932

Born in Albany, New York, in the 1870s Low studied with Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He later joined the atelier of Carolus-Duran. Low returned to New York and joined the fledgeling Society of American Artists in 1878. He illustrated John Keats and painted New England genre scenes. He later turned to decorative work, painting murals and panels for public and private buildings and designing stained-glass windows for churches. Low taught at the Cooper Union and the Art Students League.
