Henry James Stuart BrownBritish printmaker, 1871–1941

With the exception of informal classes in Glasgow, Brown was largely self-taught. Devoting much of his time to running a family business he referred to himself as an "amateur etcher." All of his etchings were printed in small editions of between 50 and 60 impressions. He focused largely on landscapes, etching 'en plein air,' carrying his copper plates and tools out of doors with him. Because of the limited editions his work is relatively rare. The British Museum, London houses the largest collection of his work.
