Noel Sickles was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. Known primarily as a cartoonist and comic strip artist, Sickles also did magazine illustration. He is best known for his comic strip "Scorchy Smith" taking over for the artist John Terry. The strip's main character was modeled after Charles Lindbergh, and was a globe-trotting pilot-for-hire.
