Gretchen HupfelAmerican artist, 1963–2002

Through an interdisciplinary approach to art making, Gretchen Hupfel combines found objects with glass etching and laser printing. Her work employs the formal aspects of Minimalism—the grid—to approach content matter in a way similar to Conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s. Hupfel received her undergraduate degree from Brown University and her master of fine arts degree from the University of Delaware in 1993. She taught at the Kansas City Art Institute and at the University of Georgia, and her work is included in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum, the High Museum of Art, and several corporate collections.
