Samuel ChamberlainAmerican printmaker, author, photographer, 1895–1975
Chamberlain was born in Iowa. When World War I arrived, Chamberlain was studying architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Service in the ambulance corps took him to France where he spent much of his early career depicting the picturesque buildings. He spent the 1920s in Paris among the vibrant art community, producing portfolios and books on European architecture, and returned to the United States in 1934, settling in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
