Richard LaytonAmerican artist and curator, 1929–2012

Layton was a local artist and the first curator of the Brandywine River Museum. He served in the Korean War and then attended Philadelphia College of Art. He studied with Frank Schoonover, Carolyn Wyeth, and Andrew Wyeth. He was one of the founders of the Brandywine Arts Festival. Locally, he is known for the overmantel painting at Buckley's Tavern in Centreville.
