A longtime fixture of the Philadelphia art scene, Paula Winokur is known for her work in porcelain. After studying under Rudolf Staffel at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, she taught at Arcadia University, creating its ceramics program, and was a staunch advocate for its art department for over 30 years. Aiming to shatter stereotypes of porcelain as delicate and fragile, she used the medium to create textured, powerful works in a variety of sizes and shapes. Later in life, she used her preferred pale palette to draw attention to issues of climate change and the melting of the polar ice caps. Winokur's work is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian, and the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.
