James W. Williamson was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Yale in 1923 and was a self-taught artist and illustrator. He worked for magazines such as Life, Punch, Vanity Fair, and The Deliniator but is best known for his advertisments. Of note are Ford, Arrow Shirts, Cliquot Club Ginger Ale, Paul Jones, and Yardley.
