John Alonzo Williams (1869 Sheboygan, WI-1951 NYC) was studied at the Art Students League and the Metropolitan School of Art in New York City, where he later became a member of the National Academy of Design. For some years he had a studio at 39 West 69th Street. He was a prolific illustrator of books and magazines. He was also an award-winning watercolorist and a member of the National Academy of Design.

Williams won the George A. Zabriskie prize at the 1927 show of the American Water Color Society; the Shaw prize of the Salmagundi Club in 1934 and 1936; and the William Church Osborn prize of the American Water Color Society in 1946. He was an honorary life member of the Salmagundi Club, the Artists Guild, and the Society of American Illustrators.
