Alexander Liberman is known as a photographer, editor, painter, and sculptor. Originally from Ukraine, Liberman initially worked in publishing in France and New York, serving as the editor of Conde Nast publications from 1962–1994. He began making art in the 1950s, using industrial materials to create large-scale sculptures that are now in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum. He received a Gold Medal for Design from the Exposition Internationale in Paris in 1937 and a Doctor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1980.
