Fletcher Martin

American painter and muralist, 1904–1979
BiographyBest known for western and boxing subjects, Martin grew up in various towns in the American West. He was largely self-taught and worked for commercial printers as a young man. He also worked as a lumberjack and a professional boxer, before finding work as a muralist. In 1938 he began teaching and would work for the next 30 years as an instructor at various California colleges and art schools.
