Don Maitz

American science fiction and fantasy artist, born 1953
BiographyDon Maitz is an artist and fantasy illustrator. Originally from Plainville, Connecticut, Maitz was educated at the Paier School of Art. Maitz is most well known for his cover illustrations for works by famous fantasy authors such as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Stephan King, Michael Moorcock, Raymond E. Feist, Gene Wolfe, and C.J. Cherryh. He was also the creator of the pirate figure of Captain Morgan for Captain Morgan rum. Maitz has won the Hugo Award for Best Professional Illustrator twice and the Chelsey Award from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists ten times. He has also received the Silver Medal of Excellence from the Society of Illustrators.
