Earl JohnstonAmerican cartoonist, 1898–1940

Cartoonist Earl Schaum “Jing” Johnston was born in Pittsburgh, where he created the cartoon Over Here (1917-1918) with writer Rupe Hainer for the Pittsburgh Leader. He also worked for other Pittsburgh and New York newspapers and contributed drawings to the American Photo-Engraver, the journal of the International Photo-Engravers Union, based in Chicago. From 1927 until his death, Johnston was an artist for The Patriot and The Evening News in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
