Wendell Keith CastleAmerican designer, sculptor, 1932–2018

Wendell Castle is recognized for his innovative art furniture. Castle was trained as an industrial designer and sculptor during the American studio craft movement, and his utilitarian forms are considered to blur the lines between fine art and furniture. The artist received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Kansas, and he began teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the early 1960s, where he later became the Artist in Residence. Castle's work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is held in the public collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, among many others.
