Aline RhonieAmerican aviator and artist, 1909–1963

Born in York, Pennsylvania, and raised in New Jersey, Rhonie began to study art with John Sloan as a teenager. In the 1930s she studied mural painting with Diego Rivera and painted a massive aviation-themed mural for a hangar at Roosevelt Field, Long Island. Also a notable aviator, Rhonie learned to fly at age 21. She worked as a commercial pilot and participated in the British war relief effort during World War II.
