Luis QuintanillaSpanish painter and printmaker, 1893–1978
Quintanilla was a prominent Spanish draftsman and muralist who exhibited internationally. Involved with the Spanish Republic, he was jailed for eight months in 1934 and exiled in 1939 when the republic fell. His exile took him to New York, where he lived until 1958, when he moved to Paris. Part of the international intelligencia, in the 1930s Quintanilla was the subject of essays by Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos and his work appeared at the Museum of Modern Art.
