Tony SargAmerican artist, 1880–1942

Tony Sarg gained fame both for his illustration in children's books and for reviving the marionette theatre in the United States. He left his native Germany in 1923.

At age 23, he left Germany to live in England, where he worked as an illustrator for an advertising agency and for popular for magazines. Settled in America by 1915, he became a book illustrator and branched out into several categories, including marionette theater, toys, puzzles, and the flying helium character balloons used in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades.
