Albert Mumford LindsayAmerican wood engraver, 1858–1940

Philadelphia-based Albert Mumford Lindsay was renowned for his wood engravings of paintings by Howard Pyle, Frederic Remington, and A.B. Frost for Scribner's and Harper and Brothers publications. Lindsay learned his trade as an apprentice to William Ithan Inger at Van Nyen and Snyder in the mid-1870s. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and joined the Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Society of American Wood Engravers. He served on the Jury of Selection in Engraving and exhibited work at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. The Delaware Art Museum has a collection of archival material related to Lindsay, including his account book and his certificate of indenture.
