Revington ArthurAmerican painter and teacher, 1908–1986

Painter Revington Arthur was Director of the Chatauqua Art Center for decades and Associate Director of the Silvermine School of Art, influencing generations of artists. Born in Connecticut, Arthur studied at the Grand Central School of Arts and the Art Students League with instructors including Arshile Gorky, Kimon Nicolaides, and George Luks. Arthur was a founder of the annual Chautauqua Exhibition of Art, the annual New England Exhibition, and the National Print show. Arthur has works in the Brooklyn Museum, the Walker Art Center, and the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences. He exhibited at the Carnegie Institute, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Museum of Fine Art in Sao Paolo, and the World's Fairs of 1939 and 1964.
