Robert MurrayCanadian sculptor, printmaker, painter, born 1936

Born in Canada, Robert Murray settled in the United States in 1960 following the completion of his degree at Regina College School of Art in Saskatchewan. The artist maintained a studio in New York City, as well as rural Pennsylvania, and became influenced by Barnett Newman and David Smith. Though primarily a sculptor, Murray creates both prints and paintings similar to the large, abstract sculptures for which he is best known. The colors and forms of Murray's signature, painted metal sculptures call to mind the nature landscape that inspires him.
