Walter WilloughbyAmerican painter, 1886–1973

Walter Willoughby, born Walter Willoughby Josephs, was an artist active in Delaware and Philadelphia in the 1920s and 1930s. He graduated from University of Delaware with a degree in engineering and flew bombers during World War I. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Daniel Garber and won a scholarship to study abroad after the War. In the 1930s he produced work for the Public Works of Art Project in Delaware. He eventually settled in La Jolla, outside San Diego, California, where he worked as an art instructor and portrait painter.
