Charles Warde TraverAmerican illustrator, 1870–1945
Traver was born in Ann Arbor, MIchigan and attended the Detroit School of Art before moving to Chicago to study at the Art Institute and work for Frank Millet to execute decorations for the World's Columbian Exposition. After a brief time in Los Angeles, a patron paid for him to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Munich, where he was heavily influenced by the graphic art of Aubrey Beardsley. He settled in New York in 1898 and became asuccessful illustrator working for magazines and creating product advertisements.
