Clarence K. ChattertonAmerican painter, 1880–1973

Chatterton studied at the New York School of Art under F. Luis Mora, Robert Henri, Kenneth Hayes Miller, and William Merritt Chase, and he credited Henri with being his greatest influence. From 1915 through 1948 Chatterton was artist-in-residence and professor at Vassar College where he founded the Department of Applied Arts. He was known for his views of small-town America painted in bold flat colors.
