Betty GoldAmerican painter, sculptor, and photographer, born 1935

A native Texan, Betty Gold was first a painter before transitioning to sculpture. She credits her mother, who worked on an airline assembly during World War II, as an influence on her shift to sculpting. She has noted that all of her work, with the exception of photography, has been based on geometry, and her large scale outdoor sculptures are the result of such explorations.

Gold studied at the University of Texas at Austin and with Octavio Medellin in Dallas. She has exhibited her work extensively in Texas and in California, where she now resides, and is represented in the collections of the Indianapolis Museum of Art (now Newfields), Pepperdine University, the New Orleans Museum of Art, among numerous others. A documentary about her life, directed by Jason McMerty, is currently in progress.
