Duane MichalsAmerican photographer, born 1932

Duane Michals is best known for his sequential photographs that explore complicated emotional and social narratives and situations. Michals received his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver in 1953 and worked first as a graphic designer. His first solo exhibition was held at the Museum of Modern Art in 1970 and subsequent shows have been on view throughout the United States and abroad. Michals has been honored with fellowships, awards, and grants and his photographs are included in the public collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, among many others.
