Rudolf Harry StaffelAmerican ceramicist, sculptor, and instructor, 1911–2002

Rudolf Staffel is known for his work in porcelain, particularly his "Light Gatherers" series of open forms. Originally interested in painting, Staffel attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later studied with Hans Hofmann in New York. In the 1950s, he began working with porcelain, which he generally left white and unglazed. Staffel taught at the Tyler School of Art for over three decades and is in the collections of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
