Albion Harris BicknellAmerican painter and printmaker, 1837–1915

Born in Maine, Bicknell moved to Boston to study art at the Lowell Institute around 1855. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the early 1860s. By 1864 he had returned to Boston, established a studio, and began to show his work in galleries and juried exhibitions. In 1875 he began to experiment with making monotypes, and his work in this medium was shown in Boston and New York, encouraging other artists to experiment with the process.
