Leon KrollAmerican painter, printmaker, 1884–1974

Born and raised in Lower Manhattan in a musical family, Kroll studied art at the Art Students League under John Twachtman and at the Académie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens. Kroll was best known for his nudes and portraits, though he also painted landscape and still life pictures. His style fused classical and modern elements, presenting figures with smooth elegant outlines. He produced several murals betwen 1935 and 1953. He taught at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design.
