Weyhe Gallery1919–2003

Weyhe Gallery (also known as Weyhe Gallery and Bookstore) was a print and art bookshop based in New York. It operated from 1919 to 1923 at 710 Lexington Avenue, and from 1923 to 2003 in a townhouse at 794 Lexington Avenue. Throughout its existence, it was regarded as an institution in the New York art sphere and served as a gathering place for art dealers and collectors interested in modern art. From 1919 to 1940, Weyhe Gallery was under the stewardship of Carl Zigrosser, a print dealer who later assumed a curatorial role in the department of prints and drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Following Zigrosser’s departure, Weyhe continued its operations under new management until his death in 1972, at which point the gallery was inherited by his daughter, Gertrude Weyhe Dennis. Upon her passing, the gallery relocated to Mount Desert, Maine, where it is currently operating as Weyhe Art Books.
