Julie Hart Beers Kempson (1835–1913) was an American landscape painter associated with the Hudson River School and the White Mountain School of Art who was one of the very few commercially successful professional women landscape painters of her day.
Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Scottish immigrants who had settled in Albany, N.Y., in 1831. Her two older brothers, William Hart and James McDougal Hart were also important landscape painters of the Hudson River School.
Raised in Albany, Beers studied under the tutelage of her brother James. Following her marriage to G.W. Beers, a local Albany printer, and the birth of her two daughters, Beers moved to New York City and began exhibiting with the Brooklyn Art Association. She went on to exhibit beside major artists at the National Academy of Design and the Boston Athenaeum.
