Nora S. UnwinBritish engraver and illustrator, 1907–1982
Born and educated in England, Nora Spicer Unwin is best known as an author and illustrator of children's books. Unwin studied art with Leon Underwood in London and continued training at the Kingston School of Art and the Royal College of Art. She found early success as a wood engraver and book illustrator. Unwin also taught art in England and the United States, where she relocated in 1946, following her friend and book collaborator Elizabeth Yates. Unwin and Yates received a Newbery mention for Mountain Born and won a Newbery Medal for Amos Fortune, Free Man.
