Saul SophrinAmerican artist, 1923–2023

Born in Brooklyn in 1923, Saul Sophrin artistically emerged from the artistic legacy of Depression-era New Deal art programs. Sophrin studied painting at Cooper Union and worked later in New York City as a graphic designer. He relocated to Wilmington, Delaware in 1967, where he maintained an active studio practice, immersing himself in the creative community he found there. In addition to drawing and painting, Sophrin focused on printmaking, producing commentary on social conditions and capturing portraits and family life. In addition to participating in juried exhibitions at the Delaware Art Museum, Sophrin collaborated with fellow local artists and was active on the Wilmington Board of Education.
