American artist, 1891–1965
BiographyRaised in Rhode Island, Heintzelman received his early training at the Rhode Island School of Design and won that school's traveling fellowship in 1911. He traveled through the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, and England that summer, before returning to become an instructor's assistant and later an instructor of drawing and painting at RISD. He was known for his sensitive portrait studies, particularly his images of children.
