Known for his images of Delaware and Maryland, John Moll studied art at the School of Industrial Art, Philadelphia, and at the Wilmington Academy of Art under Frank Schoonover and N. C. Wyeth. John Moll moved to Middletown, Delaware, in the early 1930s and worked for Delaware's office of the Works Progress Administration, creating drawings and paintings detailing that state's history. He was also the primary illustrator of the book, Delaware, A Guide to the First State. In 1946 Moll established a studio in Oxford, Maryland. He illustrated books on local subjects and executed murals in the region.
