Glenn O. ColemanAmerican painter and printmaker, 1887–1932

Coleman was born in Springfield, Ohio, and worked as an artist for an Indianapolis newspaper before moving to New York City in the early 1900s. He studied with Robert Henri and Everett Shinn and made drawings for The Masses, a socialist magazine where John Sloan worked. Like his friends who would become known as the Ashcan School, Coleman drew and painted the urban scene. His paintings and prints often picture the city from a distant, elevated perspective and frequently include warped and stylized architectural forms that covey the energy and movement of urban life.
