Maria HenleAmerican printmaker, 1955–2007

Born in St. Croix in 1955, Maria Henle began her artistic studies in Florence, Italy. She then moved to New York City, focusing on printmaking at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. In 1986, Henle received a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Through her travels, Henle captured the landscapes of the Andes, Nepal, Iceland, and other countries through her art. Henle's art blends realistic visuals and abstract compositions and she uses layering and color to create illusion and depth. Her work is in the collections of the University of Texas, Austin; Bank of America, Charlotte, NC; and Metropolitan Life, New York City. In 1993, she founded the Maria Henle Studio in St. Croix, which is now the Henle Gallery.
