Label TextSloan said, "The potter's art bridges the gulf between two civilizations." He and his first wife Dolly helped to organize the Exposition of Indian Art to promote Native American aesthetics and craftsmanship. They hoped exhibitions would encourage the appreciation and purchase of Native American art. Proceeds from the sales would assist in the creation of a stable economic base as well as the preservation of traditional artistic forms and methods.
