Label TextIn 1898, Pyle painted this scene of a ship in flames on the high seas and its passengers fleeing in a small boat. In 1904, it appeared as a full page illustration unaccompanied by text in Collier's Weekly. A year later, Pyle altered the motif to represent a pirate attack in the color illustration "An Attack On a Galleon" for his story "The Fate of a Treasure Town."
