Label TextIn this tale, Christine plants a magic apple tree, from which only she can pick the fruit. Above, her mother and sisters express their frustration that the apple clings to the tree at their touch. When the King passes by and fails the same way, he demands that the owner of the tree bring him the apple. Below, the obedient Christine will soon be made queen, and the tree miraculously transports itself to her castle.

Pyle wrote this original story rather than adapt a traditional fairy tale to modern form, which he did for some of his fables.
