Label TextEstablished by 1910 as a major advertising artist, C. Coles Phillips also brought his ideal of the fashionable and resourceful "modern woman" to his magazine covers. This cover is an example of the interaction of advertising imagery and magazine cover art. Phillips created many ads for Holeproof Hosiery, featuring women displaying their flawless stockings. Here, a similarly posed model must deal instead with impromptu repairs.
